The Four States of Consciousness

as they apply to Coercive Persuasion Techniques

Psychologists have stated for years that behavior at any given moment may be attributed to one of four basic levels of consciousness.

1. Unconsciously Incompetent
Subjects aren't even aware that they're incompetent at a task.

2. Consciously Incompetent
Subjects are aware that they're incompetent at a task.

3. Consciously competent
Subjects are aware that they're competent at a task.

4. Unconsciously Competent
Subjects aren't even aware that they're competent at a task.

Think about it. Whenever you see someone perform a task with true mastery,
(at the unconsciously competent level) you always see a similar pattern:

1. They are extremely well prepared for the task.
2. They have practiced the task recently.
3. They don't seem to have to think about doing the task while they are actually doing it.
4. They seem to be enjoying themselves.

The persuader's mission is to recognize what state of consciousness the subjects are currently in. Awareness of this level will give serious insight into how to handle a subject and help the persuaders angle their initiatives.

BTW: Have you ever noticed how attractive a person becomes when they are seen enjoying themselves? It's true so when you attempt to persuade always look like you're enjoying yourself because "If they are attracted to you, they are much more likely to accept your guidance and direction."
